SMILE, as the first lifelong education research institute in China, has participated in various symposiums on lifelong learning and the promotion of learning cities in Asia, voicing opinions from China and sharing outstanding cases of lifelong learning in China.
SMILE gathered research strengths and provided professional support to help Shanghai successfully join the Global Network of Learning Cities (GNLC).
Professor Li Jiacheng, Executive Vice President of Shanghai Institute for Lifelong Education, and Associate Professor Zhang Yong, Adjunct Researcher, went to Medellin, Colombia, on October 1-3, 2019, to participate in the 4th International Conference on Learning Cities.
Shanghai was the only city in China to win the prestigious “Learning City Award” from UNESCO for the first time. The Shanghai Municipal Education Commission issued a special letter of appreciation to commend SMILE for its great contribution.
SMILE successfully hosted the 10th Anniversary of the Global Network of Learning Cities (GNLC), which was attended by mayors, city representatives and UIL program officers from more than ten countries.
SMILE participated in welcoming the new director of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, Isabell Kempf.
