From December 11 to 13, 2024, at the invitation of Sukhothai, Thailand, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, and a member of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities, Prof. Li Jiacheng, executive vice president of the Shanghai Municipal Institute for Lifelong Education (SMILE), attended an international symposium on “Heritage, Creative Crafts and Lifelong Learning Communities” in Sukhothai,Thailand.
Prof. Li Jiachengshared the fruitful work carried out by Shanghai as a member city of the Global Network of Learning Cities and one of the leading cities of the ESD Cluster since 2019, and introduced the two consecutively published books Community Education for Sustainable Development: Observation on Shanghai's Action and the newly-publishedClimate Change Education: China in Action (in Chinese and English). He also invited the representatives to join hands in the building and research of learning cities, and to strengthen the conservation of cultural heritage and lifelong learning for all against the backdrop of climate change.
During the conference, Prof. Li Jiacheng exchanged views with the mayor of Sukhothai, and had academic exchanges and interactions with scholars from the United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Egypt and other countries who are engaged in the study of world cultural heritage conservation, creative crafts, and learning cities, as well as representatives from the member cities of the Global Network of Learning Cities in Thailand.
