Shanghai Municipal Institute for Lifelong Education Holds Working Meeting on "Climate Change Education" with Save the Children

On the morning of June 7th, representatives from Shanghai Municipal Institute of Lifelong Education (SMILE) and Save the Children held anworking meeting(online and offlinesimultaneously) on the topic of "Climate Change Education". Program officers from Save the Children International, including Liu Ming, Xu Xin'er, Zhang Ying, Du Chencheng, and Xia Qiyu, engaged in in-depth discussions with Li Jiacheng, Executive Vice President of SMILE and Professor at East China Normal University, along with Dr. Yan Qian, PhD student Li Shuhan, and graduatestudent Yang Yining.

During the meeting, both parties conducted constructive discussions on various topics, including the policy status, implementation platforms, promotion models in schools, forms of enterprise participation, and community outreach of climate change education. Participants unanimously agreed that the implementation of climate change education is crucial for the sustainable development of all countries worldwide and represents a new direction in the field of education that deserves close attention. Integrating climate change education into primary and secondary education, community education, and family education, as well as strengthening multi-stakeholder participation from "home-school-community-enterprise", are key initiatives to advance progress in this area. The meeting concluded with a consensus to further strengthen cooperation in related fieldsin the future.

Education plays a crucial role in global action against climate change, which is a major challenge the world is facing today. Meanwhile, climate change education is a global systematic project that requires the collaboration of governments, schools, social organizations, enterprises, and other stakeholders. It is reported that SMILE is actively promoting the establishment of a "Climate Change Education Laboratory", integrating resources from related disciplines such as Geography, Ecology, Meteorology, Computer Science, and Communication Studies. In the context of the comprehensive issue of climate change, SMILE aims to combine forces from the Shanghai Climate Week, Save the Children, community colleges and universitiesfor senior citizens across the districts, and primary and secondary schools nationwide to continuously advance the practice and theoretical development of climate change education, contributing wisdom and strength to building a better home where man and nature coexist in harmony.
