The Climate Change Education Laboratory

The Climate Change Education Laboratory project originated from the platform of UNESCO's Global Network of Learning Cities “Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)” project, which was commissioned by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Education and promoted by the Shanghai Institute of Lifelong Education. The project aims at focusing on climate change, which is a major global public issue, and actively mobilizing the unique advantages of lifelong education and learning society to develop and explore local climate change education actions and experiences. It aims to focus on climate change as a major global public issue, actively mobilize the unique advantages of lifelong education and a learning society, develop and explore local climate change education initiatives and experiences, raise the awareness of all people of the reality of the climate change crisis, enhance the climate adaptation capacity of all people, and help China and the United Nations achieve the sustainable development goals as soon as possible. Based on two years of operation, it is planned to establish a full-fledged liberal arts laboratory to promote the development of practical innovation and independent theoretical research in the field of climate change education, and to take advantage of this international issue to enhance educational cooperation and exchanges with relevant international networks. The main issue to be addressed by the laboratory is how to provide systematic and high-quality climate change education for all age groups, including children, adolescents, adults and the elderly, in accordance with the current domestic and international climate change realities and related policy requirements.
